Greenwood Dinner Party #1 in Radnor PA (outside Philadelphia) with (left to right): T.W., Christina, Cindy and Liz. |
Bruce Greenwood's fans are not content to merely chat over the Internet, but we are willing to drive for many miles to meet each other in person and get to know each other while discussing our favorite actor. The resulting friendships are precious indeed! :-)The first of these most delightful encounters took place on August 29, 1996, just after Sonja compiled a Geo Roster of BG fans. Cindy, while reading the Geo Roster, noticed that I live near her, and Cindy had the idea of getting together. We both noticed that Christina and Toxic Witch live in the same general area (well, within about a fifty mile radius!) and so we contacted them, as well as the New York contingent (Pam, June, and Annette -- Holly had not yet joined the list). I made a reservation under the name of Greenwood, thinking that it would be great fun to enter the restaurant and ask for "the Greenwood party." We met at Carolina's, an excellent restaurant with an informal and friendly ambiance, in Radnor, Pennsylvania.
Even though none of us had met before, we all experienced an immediate kinship, a sisterly feeling, a bonding, and we talked nonstop for about three hours! The conversation centered mostly around Bruce and Nowhere Man, but we also discussed IRC, the Internet, and the virtues of mailing lists. I felt as if I had known Cindy, Christina, and T.W. for years and not just a few minutes, because we all had so much in common. It was so great to put faces to names, and I know that the friendships we are developing here will continue.
Some of us had brought goodies to share: Cindy has the official Nowhere Man T-shirt; Christina has some beautiful 8x10 glossies of Bruce; and I have his autograph. At the end of the evening our waitress (dear, patient soul) took our pictures with all four of our cameras.
I encourage any of you who can to come to a meeting like this, or try to arrange your own, based on Sonja's Geo Roster (thanks again, Sonja!). I hope to be able to do this again. We were thinking that it would be cool for all of us to go to Father's Day together when the movie comes out.
I wonder what Bruce would say? ;-)
