BRUCE SOLOS at GENGHIS COHEN

August 13, 2003

Genghis Cohen

During the Summer of 2003, Bruce made an unexpected appearance at Genghis Cohen. He was just off an airplane and didn't have much time to practice with Gregg, but he managed to join him for a couple of songs and - to the delight of at least one of his fans - he even performed alone. Kris Rice was the lucky fan in attendance:

from Kris Rice:

The first time I ever saw Gregg Henry perform it was kind of like a jamboree. He would play a bit, then have someone join him on stage. Then Gregg would turn the stage over to that person and after a couple of songs, Gregg would get back up for a couple of more songs and then turn the stage over to someone else. That is pretty much how it went the entire evening..... The second time, I had a major distraction, because HE was there!

I did not know Bruce was going to be there. My first warning came as I was nearing the front door. The couple in front of me made a comment that they wanted to check to see if Bruce and Susan were there first. I kinda freaked, but decided it HAD to be another couple. I went inside and sat down and opened my book to read, while waiting for Gregg to get set up. I thought I heard Bruce's voice. I looked up, and even with my reading glasses, I knew it was him.... He was wearing a dark green T shirt and slacks, and carrying a green guitar. I was going to take notes, but when he ended up sitting across the aisle from me, that really put an end to that. So I tried to just concentrate on Gregg while he was playing. But it was hard, I could hear Bruce tap his feet and laugh....

When Gregg brought Bruce up, concentrating on Gregg went out the window. The love these two have for each other was so evident. After each song, they would reach out for each other's hand and grab hold of each other and just smile at each other. Gregg joked about how Bruce was to be at the All Star Jamboree (when I went last time) that turned out to be the Missing Star Jamboree--and he left Bruce alone on stage.

The second Gregg left, Bruce whimpered "Sue, can I have a glass of water?" Gregg was faster and gave him some beer. I think after the 1st song he said something like "think tempo, and words, it will come to you." He was just SOOOOOOO adorable! I truly have no idea what Bruce sang

.

Then Gregg reclaimed the stage for the last couple of songs. Gregg got 2 encores, and got Bruce to come up for the first--- kinda coaxed him up---Bruce good naturally groaned "geesh, oh no." They did screw up from their looks at each other, but I would not have been able to tell.

When it was over, I put my stuff away, and realized I could not go anywhere. Welllll, I could have, but Bruce had gotten up and people were trying to talk to him, so he was blocking my ONLY way out... So I sat until he was finished---what a sacrifice! It was tough! As soon as he could get away he went to stage to clear his stuff off,for the next performer.

I left then, because seeing him in person was just more than enough---it was like this cool present. To this day I still can't comprehend that I saw Bruce.
